PORTION sizes. A study in the British Dental Journal criticised certain cereal makers for the images on their packaging.

Frosties, Coco Pops and others use pictures of a bowl full to the brim with cereal and milk. A typical serving is about 30g — but researcher­s said the portion shown was three times that. If children under the age of ten imitated the serving, they would exceed their day’s sugar limit in one meal.

Record numbers of children face ill health due to obesity. No one can shirk their duty to tackle this — and that includes food manufactur­ers.
