My idol Tommy still Steeles the show!

JANE FRYER’S article on Tommy Steele (Mail) brought back so many memories of my teenage years. Tommy was my idol and I had a huge poster of him on my bedroom wall. I was lucky enough to meet Tommy after a show at the Liverpool Empire in 1957. Two girls waiting outside the stage door had bought a doll for Tommy’s sister, who collected dolls from other lands. They had been given permission to give this to him and asked if we would like to go into the theatre with them, which we did. He was a charming young man and autographed all my records for me. About five years ago a young friend of mine, during a visit to London, went to see Scrooge at the theatre. She told me there was an amazing guy in it called Tommy Steele, whom she had never heard of prior to that. My friend couldn’t believe I had actually met him when I was a star- struck teenager! Happy memories of happy days! I am so pleased to see that Tommy is still doing well.
