High Street confusion
DON’T blame internet shopping for the death of the department store (Mail). House of Fraser on London’s Oxford Street has been a dodo for years, shabby and neglected.
The problem lies with the stores themselves, which seem to have forgotten the meaning of department. Once, if you needed a new coat, you went to the coat department — easy! You knew your price range and chose accordingly, be it BHS or Harrods.
Now we have the dreaded concessions with limited stock, which leaves customers like me frustrated. If department stores gave the customer what they want, they would come back into fashion.
