Final joy for Viv and Sue

- CARA SLOMAN

VIV MONUMENT and Sue Dix had never teamed up together before this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes and now the Kingsdown duo are the first pair to reach the grand finals. The Wiltshire side won four of their seven knockout matches away from home and wrapped up their victory 4&3 at the Vale Resort beating Maria Woods and Linda Blake to clinch their place in the October showpiece, held at the Marriott St Pierre. ‘We kept it steady at crucial times. On the day our putts went in and theirs didn’t. It was purely down to that,’ admitted Monument, a member at the club for just over a year. She stepped in when Dix’s original partner was injured, and the couple have been unstoppable. Monument said: ‘It is pure chance we played together. We’ve approached every round the same and that is to enjoy the day and have a good time, win or lose. Winning is a huge bonus, but it shouldn’t be the only reason. We’ve enjoyed each round and the company we’ve played against. It’s been fun.’ They are delighted to be one of the teams who will be competing on the Chepstow course, as it is only 40 minutes’ drive from their club. Monument added: ‘It’s a great venue for us. We both know it quite well.’
