Gregory too hot for Notts

-

SOMERSET booked the final place at this year’s Vitality Blast Finals Day after beating defending champions Nottinghamshire by 19 runs at Taunton in their heldover quarter-final. After wet conditions ruled out any play on Sunday, Somerset captain Lewis Gregory hit an unbeaten 60 as his side made 209 for five, with James Hildreth also passing 50. Gregory scored his runs from only 24 balls with two fours and four sixes. In their run chase Notts slid from 133 for two to 190 all out in the final seven overs. Jamie Overton took five for 47, but hailed Gregory saying: ‘He’s had a phenomenal year for us.’ Overton said the scalp of Alex Hales, who hit 45, was the game’s turning point. ‘He can be so destructive. It was massive for us to get him out when we did. We haven’t been to Finals Day for a few years, it will be nice to get there and see what the atmosphere is all about.’
