Officer arrests woman who slapped his bottom
A POLICE officer arrested a woman who slapped his backside in the street – claiming he didn’t come to work ‘to be sexually assaulted’.
Inspector Owen Pyle said the 26-year-old reveller was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at the Notting Hill Carnival in west London.
The neighbourhood inspector with the Met Police, took to Twitter to express his anger after the incident on Monday.
He tweeted: ‘While dealing with an incident at carnival yesterday a woman thought it’d be funny to slap my bum.
‘She soon regretted it when I arrested her. I don’t come to work to be sexually assaulted while doing my job. That kind of behaviour is unacceptable.’
Supportive Twitter users responded in their droves. One likened the incident to a clip online of ‘a male reveller grinding up against a female police officer’, adding: ‘Firm action needs to be taken against anyone like that. I really don’t understand how people can think that behaving like that towards a police officer or anyone else for that matter would be acceptable.’
Fellow Met officer Jon Killen tweeted: ‘This is just appalling. I’m sure she thought the carnival atmosphere meant she could get away with it, and I’m glad you showed her how wrong she was!’
Inspector Pyle responded: ‘I think alcohol played a part to be honest. But we need to be robust in dealing with people who think it’s ok to do that.’
A Met Police spokesman said the woman was issued with a dispersal order banning her from the carnival, adding: ‘The arresting officer deemed it appropriate based on the circumstances to arrest the woman on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.’
