Be drastic on plastic

-

IF THE Government was serious about the issue of single-use plastic bags, instead of raising the levy from 5p to 10p it would hike it to 50p or even £1.

There is no excuse for clothing shops to use plastic bags. Marks & Spencer and John Lewis should follow the example of Primark and give their customers paper bags.

J. EVERSON, Penn, Bucks. Here we go again with the great plastic bag ogre. Everyone is scurrying around squealing about the damage done to the environment, injuries caused to wildlife and the eyesore on roadsides, which is all justified.

But this real threat won’t be cured by charging 10p for a bag. The solution is simple: stop producing the dreadful things. CATHERINE JONES, Ruthin, Denbighshire.
