Dennis the menace as Warnock is red-faced

- JAMES CANDY

CARDIFF City manager Neil Warnock admits nobody impressed enough to earn a starting spot against Arsenal after their Carabao Cup humiliation by Norwich. Dennis Srbeny’s double had the Canaries cruising towards victory before Max Aarons put the finishing touches to a comprehensive win. Cardiff host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday but at least Warnock saw his side end a seven-hour goal drought when Bruno Manga headed in Bobby Reid’s corner. However, he admitted no one had changed his thinking ahead of Arsenal’s visit. ‘It’s opened my eyes for team selection on Sunday, and that’s what it was meant to be,’ said Warnock. ‘The one major decision I had for Sunday, I won’t be doing that now, but I’m pretty sure of what I’m going to go with. It hasn’t answered my questions tonight.’ The long wait for a goal at the Cardiff City Stadium finally came to an end after 26 minutes, but it wasn’t the home fans who were celebrating. Norwich midfielder Tom Trybull found Srbeny in the box and the German fired across goal into the top corner. The clock had ticked past seven hours without a Cardiff goal, but while they tried to end their drought at one end, they left the other vulnerable. Norwich had Cardiff on the ropes as they launched a rapid counter-attack. Marco Stiepermann took the ball from Trybull and sent a delicate cross to the far post for Srbeny to head home his second goal of the evening. Warnock’s nightmare got worse when Aarons sent a deflected shot past Alex Smithies to make it 3-0 with 20 minutes remaining. But the Cardiff fans finally had something to shout about when centre back Manga rose highest to head Reid’s corner into the back of the net after 77 minutes. Norwich manager Daniel Farke said: ‘I’m pleased, an away win at a Premier League game is a great result and an outstanding performance.’
