Double murder suspect ‘told his ex he’d kill her just hours earlier’

- By Claire Duffin

THE ex-boyfriend of a woman stabbed to death alongside her mother threatened to kill her just hours before, it was claimed yesterday.

Janbaz Tarin, 21, was overheard threatening Raneem Oudeh, 22, during a row at a shisha bar in Birmingham, staff said.

They claimed he also slapped her mother Khaola Saleem, 49, across the face on Sunday night.

Soon after, in the early hours of Monday, the two women were killed in a knife attack near Mrs Saleem’s home in Solihull, West Midlands.

Miss Oudeh was on the phone to police when she was attacked.

Police have said they responded to an earlier call from her but she had moved to another location.

A man who works at the Rotana shisha bar, where customers smoke flavoured tobacco in hookah pipes, said: ‘We saw Tarin and Raneem arguing and we heard yelling, so we escorted him out.’

The worker, who did not want to be named, added: ‘Tarin had even told her, “Tonight I’m gonna kill you”. Raneem called the police three times while she was here – she was very upset – but nobody showed up.’

The claim came as the Crimestoppers charity offered a £5,000 reward for information about the whereabouts of Tarin and police said they believe he is being protected locally.

His van and a knife have been recovered in Birmingham. A mobile phone and computer equipment have also been seized.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Payne, head of West Midlands CID, said: ‘We believe he is still in the West Midlands. He may have found a bolthole, but we believe he is being protected by someone.’

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, who is leading the investigation, added: ‘Someone out there knows where he is.

‘I’m hoping this significant cash reward will persuade them to pick up the phone to Crimestoppers and provide the information.’

Tarin, originally from Afghanistan, arrived in the UK in 2012 and was living in the country legally.

He and Miss Oudeh, a student, had been in a relationship, but she moved out of a flat they shared days before the attack after a series of rows and into her mother’s home.
