SELFISHNESS and ‘the desire to have a good time’ are not the main reasons for small families, according to a report on population to be presented to the National Conference of Labour Women at Leeds next week. The principal reasons are: The spread of limitation methods, the cost of a large family and the burden of housework.

FORMER child star Shirley Temple was named today as the new woman member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations. Mrs Charles Temple Black is expected to concentrate on social affairs.
