‘Make spice class A drug’
MINISTERS are being urged to reclassify the synthetic drug known as spice as class A by police leaders.
In an open letter to the Home Office, 20 Conservative police and crime commissioners (PCCs) say it is ‘most severe public health issue’ in decades.
Spice, which can leave users in a zombie-like state, is currently class B but the PCCs want a tougher classification in light of the problems it is causing.
The letter says: ‘The challenges... are an urgent public health issue that is growing in size. Our concerns not only lie with the devastating effects spice has on its users but also the wider negative impacts felt by their families, communities and emergency services.’
