IaIN duNcaN SMItH’S call for more stop- and- searches by the police (Mail) should be backed by tougher sentences for murder.

there have been 100 people murdered in london since christmas and still the courts hand out so- called life sentences with a recommende­d minimum of less than 20 years. this is no deterrent to commit murder.

Only when the judicial system gets tougher will we see a drop in the number of lives so cheaply wasted.
