Ban for teacher who threw pen lids at his pupils

-

A DISGRACED primary school teacher has been banned from the classroom for life for throwing pen lids at pupils.

Andy Jummun, 39, hurled the tops of marker pens ‘at speed’ at children aged nine and ten – hitting at least one in the face – and pulled a chair from beneath another, causing him to fall.

Jummun was convicted by magistrates last November of four charges of assault between January and March 2017. He was ordered to complete 150 hours of community work and to pay £235 compensation and £930 costs.

The supply teacher has now been hauled before a disciplinary hearing, which heard he showed ‘no remorse’ for his behaviour. The Teaching Regulation Agency said Jummun had engaged in ‘repeated violent behaviour’ towards pupils and handed him a lifetime ban.

His actions ‘could have caused injury to the pupils’, the panel said, yet he offered no insight or explanation for his behaviour.

Jummun, of Peterborough, has the right to appeal against the ban.

A spokesman for St Michael’s primary school in the city said it ‘took action as soon as the allegations came to light’.
