ACTION MAN Jack Ryan, Amazon Prime

JOHN KRASINSKI takes on the role of Tom Clancy’s reluctant hero in a thrilling new ten-part series that has a sprinkling of dry wit. There’s nothing revolutionary about the plot — bad things are afoot in sandy countries — but Krasinski (pictured) is extremely likeable as the U.S. Marine-turned-CIA analyst, and the action scenes are the equal of plenty of films.

NETFLIX’S Breaking Bad-style drama follows an unhappy family into an accidental life of criminality. Dad Marty (Jason Bateman, playing against his usual jovial casting) has a head for figures that gives him a flair for crime, and the crux of the series — in the new second season, especially — is that he, his wife and children need to trust each other more than ever in order to survive this dangerous new life.

FANTASY CRIME DRAMA Lucky Man, 9pm, Sky One

DISASTER AFTERMATH Blackout In Puerto Rico, 9pm, PBS America

LAURA SULLIVAN reports seven months after the devastation of Hurricane Maria, and finds that 100,000 people are without clean water and power. It’s amazing to think such a situation could exist in a part of the modern U.S., and the picture of mismanagement painted here is terrifying.
