Gill calls time on FIFA

-

dAVid GiLL, english football’s most influential powerbroker, is to stand down from the fifA Council at the end of the season after four years in the role. The Manchester United director and UefA executive committee member believes he can make more of a difference at UefA.

Gill had only been prepared to serve on the fifA decision-making committee because sepp Blatter resigned as president. He would have stood down if the disgraced Blatter had continued in office any longer. His successor will be chosen in an election next february rather than rotate between the four home unions as it did in the past. The strong favourite will be fA chairman Greg Clarke, who has the advantage of knowing a lot of the electorate following his frequent travels around europe building up support for england’s likely bid for the 2030 World Cup.
