He’s football crazy, he’s football mad... it must be in the blood, because Elton John’s his dad!
FOR many fathers, the highlight of the week is taking their son along to a football match to cheer on their team together.
And it seems Sir Elton John is no different, as he and son Zachary were seen celebrating at a Premier League game yesterday.
Sir Elton is the honorary life president of Watford FC – known as the Hornets – which he owned for two spells between 1976 and 2002.
He was pictured with his son in the directors’ box cheering and shouting at the club’s home ground – Vicarage Road – as their team beat Tottenham Hotspur.
The singer and his seven-year-old son stood up in the stands and clenched their fists in the air as Watford came from a goal down to win 2-1.
And the 71-year-old seemed to be in good spirits, despite previously claiming that he avoids football matches because he ‘doesn’t like crowds’. The father- of-two wore a patterned blazer and stone- coloured chinos, while his son sported the club’s black and yellow striped home shirt.
Zachary currently plays for Watford’s junior team as well. Sir Elton, who also has younger son Elijah with husband David Furnish, has previously said: ‘Zachary is incredibly into soccer. He plays for the Watford Academy team.’
As club chairman, Sir Elton was very close to former England manager Graham Taylor, who he appointed as Watford manager in 1977.
Taylor died of a suspected heart attack in January last year, aged 72, and the musician described him as ‘like a brother’.
Sir Elton’s close connection with the club was highlighted in 2014 when a new stand at their stadium was named after him.
