Expensive trip
COUNCILS are using a loophole to avoid paying compensation to people who have been injured due to potholes or cracked pavements (Mail).
To counteract this, we should all make a note of the damaged footpaths we come across in our local area and contact the local and county highways departments to ask them to make repairs.
Putting hazards on record should mean they would have to pay out compensation after an accident. Better still, it might persuade them to repair the pavements.
DAVID BALL, Marlow, Bucks. I HAVE twice fallen due to uneven pavements in my area. I ended up with black eyes, broken glasses and a trip to hospital.
I tried to get compensation to pay for new glasses — what a joke. More than 500 people signed my petition, but I am still waiting for an acknowledgement and the footpath has not been repaired. Mrs J. WRIGHT, Great Baddow, Essex.
