Save our shingle

-

WE LIVE opposite a shingle bank that protects the town from the sea. Despite notices informing visitors that it is an offence to remove shingle, 4x4s reverse up to the bank and remove stones in buckets and even dustbins.

It is fine for children to choose a few pretty stones to take home as a souvenir of a happy holiday. But we have challenged families loading up bags full of shingle. If everyone did the same it would have a devastating effect on our area.

We buy shingle for our garden from a landscape supplier for £2 per bag, so there is no reason for anyone to steal a sea defence. SUE AnD TOnY DAVIES,

new Romney, Kent.
