T P SPIN AT THE TEST

- by LAWRENCE BOOTH

ENGLAND have now gone nine home Test series without defeat stretching back to 2014, when they lost to Sri Lanka from the penultimate ball of a two-match series. They have lost just two series at home out of 20.

THE two catches taken by Alastair Cook — Virat Kohli at short leg and Rishabh Pant at deep cover — took his Test tally to 173, taking him clear of New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming to sixth place on the all-time list. Aussie Mark Waugh is fifth on 181.

VIRAT KOHLI became the first India captain to score more than 500 runs in an away series. Among all of India’s batsmen, only Rahul Dravid — with 602 runs in 2002 — has scored more in a series in England than Kohli’s 544.

WHEN Stuart Broad bowled KL Rahul for a duck, it took him level with New Zealand’s Sir Richard Hadlee on 431 Test wickets in joint-eighth on the list. The great Kapil Dev of India lies just ahead on 434.
