WE REALISE WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER

Amid rumours about state of her marriage, an admission from Posh that only adds fuel to the fire ...

VICTORIA Beckham has opened up about her marriage, saying she and husband David recognise they are ‘ stronger together’ than apart.

In an interview with British Vogue, the fashion designer, who has built up the £ 340million Brand Beckham with the ex-footballer, said she accepts that neither of them would be in their current position had they not been a couple.

‘We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals. Would either of us be in the position that we are in now had we not met and been together all those years ago?’ the mother of four said. ‘It’s all about the family unit. We are much stronger, the six of us, than we would be if we were individuals. We respect that family bond and that is key.’

While the star clearly set out to quell suggestions her 19-year marriage is on the rocks, her comments are unlikely to settle the rumours. Three months ago the Beckhams were forced to deny ‘bizarre and embarrassing’ gossip that their marriage was over after widespread speculation they were getting a divorce.

Posing on the front cover of the October issue of the fashion magazine with the couple’s four children Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and Harper, seven – and the family’s dog Olive – the former Spice Girl opened up about the rumours for the first time. She said she and David have become used to ignoring the gossip and carrying on as usual but admitted the effect of the speculation was unfair to those close to the couple.

She said: ‘People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal. But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that’s unfair.’

In an accompanying video for British Vogue to celebrate the tenth anniversary of her fashion company, Mrs Beckham poked fun at herself by posing in a PVC catsuit with cat’s ears.

It was similar to the outfit she wore 22 years ago for the video of the Spice Girls’ second No 1 hit, Say You’ll Be There.

Beckham famously revealed he fell in love with Posh when he saw her in the video.

At the time, he said: ‘ That’s the girl for me and I’m going to get her! She’s my idea of perfection. I knew that if she wanted me, we would be together for ever.’

For the Vogue photoshoot, Mrs Beckham also wore her Vivienne Westwood wedding dress from 1999 and her signature little black dress. She posted several pictures on social media, writing: ‘Thank you @britishvogue and [Vogue editor} @edward_ enninful for celebrating my tenyear anniversary with me.’

Commenting on one image, her husband wrote: ‘So proud of everything Victoria had achieved in business being a leader but her biggest achievement is what you see in this photo. A celebration of her success over the last ten years.’

Beckham, who has pumped millions into his wife’s brand, added: ‘I’m happy to be in a position to support her dreams.’

The couple were recently ranked 372nd on the Sunday Times Rich List with a worth of £340million – up £40million on last year.

They married in a lavish ceremony in Ireland in July 1999, sitting on golden thrones.

‘Brand Beckham’ has become one of the most gossiped-about marriages in the world.

The biggest crisis came in 2004 when Beckham’s former personal assistant Rebecca Loos claimed she had an affair with him while they were in Spain after his transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid.

The Beckhams said her claims were ‘ludicrous’ but dropped a libel case against a newspaper which claimed their union was little more than a business arrangement.

The marriage was also said to have become strained last summer, with Mrs Beckham taking exception to her husband spending time with glamorous friends such as model and designer Alexa Chung and model and actress Poppy Delevingne. He met Miss Delevingne when both starred in Guy Ritchie’s film King Arthur and the two of them were spotted coming out of a bar in Los Angeles together last year.

In the Vogue interview, Mrs Beckham also revealed that daughter Harper has been wearing platform heels by Tunisian shoe designer Azzedine Alaïa since the age of three.

However, she says the youngster is only allowed to wear heels and make-up around the house.
