Staff swipe documents off his desk

-

MR Trump’s aides tried to restrain his impulses by swiping documents off his Oval Office desk to stop him signing them, the book claims.

The President’s former top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, ‘stole’ one letter – to withdraw the US from a trade agreement with South Korea – because he thought it was a threat to national security.

Mr Cohn reportedly told one associate: ‘I wouldn’t let him see it. He’s never going to see that document. Got to protect the country’.

When another aide drew up an order to withdraw the US from the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada, Mr Cohn said: ‘I can stop this. I’ll just take the paper off his desk’.

Meanwhile former staff secretary Rob Porter revealed: ‘A third of my job was trying to react to some of the really dangerous ideas that he had and try to give him reasons to believe that maybe they weren’t such good ideas’.
