Tesco hires veteran dealmaker

PRIVATE equity veteran Melissa Bethell has joined the board of Tesco.

The Taiwan-born 43-year-old was a senior advisor at Bain Capital for 18 years and member of the senior leadership team. She stepped down at the start of the year but remains an adviser. Married with four children, she is also a managing partner at Atairos Europe and a director of the Agnelli family’s holding company Exor. Bethell will join the audit committee at Tesco on September 24.

John Allan, Tesco chairman, said: ‘Her broad range of skills will be of significant benefit to the board.’
