Copper bottomed

-

I WAs amazed to see the ridiculing of the policeman who arrested a drunken woman after she smacked his rear in public (Letters).

Far from being a harmless prank, her behaviour constituted sexual assault, which is a statutory offence.

Policing is a demanding and often dangerous occupation and those who undertake it merit our appreciation and support, not blatant disrespect. JereMY MAY, Poole, Dorset. THe report about the policeman arresting the woman for patting him on the bottom reminded me of when I was an officer covering the New Year celebrations in my town square.

I was approached by an attractive young lady who asked: ‘Is it illegal to kiss a policeman while he’s on duty?’

I replied: ‘It depends on which part of the body you are kissing and who is watching . . .’

I got my kiss and the lady collected her winnings from the bets placed by her friends. rOLAnD griFFiTHS, nantwich, Cheshire.
