Bond producers move towards first woman director – and she’s British!
THE next James Bond film could be the first in the franchise to be directed by a woman.
Producers are considering hiring British director SJ Clarkson to replace Danny Boyle who left the project last month.
Miss Clarkson has extensive television experience, including the recent BBC drama Collateral, but has never previosly directed for the cinema.
Film website Variety reported that MGM and Eon Productions are setting up a meeting with her.
She is said to have attracted their attention after her work on Jessica Jones, a Netflix series praised for its action sequences. Miss Clarkson, formerly a theatre producer, began her directing career on BBC soap operas Doctors and EastEnders.
She went on to direct episodes of Footballers’ Wives, Life on Mars and Ugly Betty.
The 007 franchise has been repeatedly criticised for its portrayal of women.
The new film was due for release in November next year, with Daniel Craig again playing 007, but is now expected to be delayed.
