SUPERB ANGEL’S STILL GOT WINGS, SAYS COX

- By SAM TURNER

TRAINER Clive Cox has ‘no doubt whatsoever’ that

HARRY ANGEL

(Haydock, 4.15) retains all of his ability ahead of today’s 32Red Sprint Cup. The four-year-old, off the track since suffering a puncture wound in the stalls prior to the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, bids to become just the second horse in the history of the Sprint Cup, after Be Friendly, to win the prestigious Group One twice. With an unbeaten record away from Ascot standing at five, including two victories at today’s venue, Harry Angel will be a short price to repeat last year’s four-length romp in this afternoon’s feature. The selection’s handler believes the signs are positive ahead of the assignment and has revealed the volume of work undertaken to repair Harry Angel’s mental state. ‘We have worked on Harry Angel’s confidence every day as, like most top sprinters, he is a coiled spring,’ said Cox. ‘Hopefully, the work we’ve done will show in the race as I have no doubt he retains all his ability. ‘Throughout his career we have had to mind him with the stalls but he is a fresh horse and his build-up to the race has been good.’
