French sweep Brits aside

BRITISH horses were out of luck yesterday in the Prix du Moulin as Recoletos led home a French 1-2 in a thrilling renewal of the Longchamp feature. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Expert Eye, Lightning Spear (David Simcock) and Without Parole (John Gosden) appeared to give the cross-Channel raiders a strong hand in the prestigious Group One. But they could not cope with the late thrust of Recoletos who was brought with a well-timed run by rider Olivier Peslier to overhaul Wind Chimes in the dying strides. Expert Eye emerged best of the English trio, finishing well to take third, two places in front of Lightning Spear and three lengths clear of Without Parole in sixth.
