TONEY FINDS HIS FEET TO KEEP POSH TOP

- TOM FARMERY

HERO OF THE WEEK Ivan Toney (Peterborough)

Toney spent three seasons out on loan while at Newcastle. This summer the 22-year-old striker joined Peterborough on a permanent deal and has quickly settled in. Posh had been pegged back to 2-2 at Southend before Toney pounced from close range to score an 87thminute winner which puts Peterborough two points clear at the top.

ZERO OF THE WEEK Edin Rahic (Bradford chairman)

It was a terrible start for the new Bradford boss David Hopkin, who became the club’s fourth manager this year after the sacking of Michael Collins. Bradford were 2-0 up before conceding three goals in the last six minutes against Blackpool. The Bantams are 19th after three straight defeats. Rahic is culpable. After all, he was the one who sacked Stuart McCall in February. The same Stuart McCall who had Bradford in the play- off places when he was given the boot.

GOAL OF THE WEEK Matty Blair for Doncaster v Luton

Blair scored Doncaster’s first goal in a 2-1 win over Luton. He controlled the ball just inside the Luton half, surged forward past three opposition players before placing a left-foot shot past goalkeeper James Shea from outside the area.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Plymouth boss Derek Adams is remaining positive despite his side sitting bottom of the table having failed to win a league game this season. ‘Listen, we will be fine this season. We will be in a good position,’ Adams said following a 0-0 at Bristol Rovers. ‘We have a very good squad here and we will be pushing on.’

STAT OF THE WEEK

Sunderland have won more points from losing positions in seven league games this season (11) than they did in all 46 Championship games last year (10). They drew 1-1 against Fleetwood on Saturday.
