S’appnin! PCs learn teen slang
THE shocking rise of gang violence has raised questions over what police are doing to combat the epidemic.
But one force believes training its officers to understand ‘youth language’ is a way forward. An urban dictionary of street slang has been compiled by a Lancashire police station to help its officers communicate with gangs, deciphering phrases such as ‘Blud (s’appnin)’ which means ‘what’s happening mate’.
The list, scrawled on a whiteboard at a station in Fylde, explains that Stormzy is a rapper from Croydon.
It also states that ‘beef-ting fam’ means ‘starting an argument’, while ‘peng’ means ‘good/attractive’.
