Forgotten notes worth £1.8bn
HOUSEHOLDS are still sitting on £1.8 billion worth of old five and ten pound notes.
Shoppers have not been able to use old £5 notes since May 2017. But around 124 million notes have not been returned to the Bank of England. And there are 122 million £10 notes, taken out of circulation in March, out there, according to MoneySavingExpert.
You can exchange old notes in person at the Bank of England, providing proof of your identity and address. The bank is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm. Or post them to Bank of England, Threadneedle Street, London EC2R 8AH. Funds will be paid into your bank account.
