Power station to come back to life

-

A DECOMMISSIONED power plant has been bought by a regeneration firm with major plans for redevelopment.

Harworth Group is proposing to turn the former Ironbridge power station in Shropshire into a mixed development of homes and commercial buildings.

It is the latest regeneration project for the company which owns and manages 21,000 acres of land on 136 sites across the North and the Midlands.

Recent projects include the transformation of the Orgreave Colliery into an advanced manufacturing centre where major companies such as Rolls-Royce, McLaren and Boeing operate.

The Ironbridge power station, ran by Eon UK at one stage, previously used coal to generate electricity but was converted to use biomass fuel. It stopped generating electricity in 2015.

Harworth bought the 350-acre site from Uniper in June and will be responsible for demolition work as well as redevelopment plans.
