WHYTE’S DREAM DEBUT SEALS WIN FOR O’NEILL
GAvIN WHyTE scored with his first touch in international football as Northern Ireland blew Israel away at Windsor Park last night.
The 22-year- old came on as a substitute in the 65th minute and scored his team’s third goal just 106 seconds later when he poked home following a blunder from Israel goalkeeper Guy Haimov.
Steven Davis and Stuart Dallas had both struck in the first half, which provided Northern Ireland with a platform for victory.
Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neil said: ‘I’m delighted for Whyte. His talent was never in question.’
An ecstatic Whyte said: ‘It was amazing, it’s happened so quickly. My Mum will be over the moon.’
Davis opened the scoring for the hosts after 13 minutes with a first-time finish from a corner before Dallas then doubled the lead four minutes before half-time.
The win will come as a relief after the disappointing 2-1 home defeat by Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League on Saturday.
