Crash hit staff in 30s for £2k

-

workers in their thirties are the biggest losers from the economic downturn, a study has found.

They are earning around £2,100 a year less than their counterparts were in 2008 when the recession struck, according to the Institute for Fiscal studies.

employees now in their thirties were starting their careers when the crash came – and it was easier for employers to cut their salaries rather than those of established staff.

According to IFs estimates, someone now aged between 30 and 39 is likely to be earning 7.2 per cent less than someone of the same age in 2008.

workers across the board are £800 a year worse off today, with average wages in 2018 running at £ 23,300 against £24,100 in 2008.
