MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND A cashless society is on its way, They say. Major transactions with just a click of the mouse — Like buying a house. No satisfying wad of notes beneath the mattress unseen, Just a row of figures on the screen. No piggy bank to raid at all When Mr Whippy comes to call. No tinkling of tills, No fruit machine thrills. No shouts from market traders: ‘Who’ll give me a £1 for 5lb of taters?’ A quiet, antiseptic world of money that only exists Like mist. Perhaps the world won’t spin on its axis any more As it always has since days of yore. No, it will carry on turning I feel sure — It just won’t rattle any more. Janet Gibbs, Ryde, Isle of Wight.
