French minister’s threat to derail the Eurostar

-

FRANCE could stop Eurostar trains travelling into Paris from London in the event of a no deal Brexit.

The country’s European affairs minister Nathalie Loiseau suggested Eurostar would be rejected if unilateral deals were not struck. She also suggested UK planes could be turned back mid-air and that no deal ‘chaos’ could continue for years. The Department for Transport last night said its ‘ambition’ is to keep the ‘existing liberal level of transport access’ but that ‘contingency plans’ were also being drawn up.

Barring Eurostar trains would severely affect the hundreds of thousands of tourists and businesses who use the two-hour service into Paris as a quick route from St Pancras.
