Hobson has Doncaster Cup glory in his sights

- By SAM TURNER Britain’s No 1 Tipster

THOMAS HOBSON (Doncaster, 3.35), a versatile gelding who has won at Royal Ascot, run at the Cheltenham Festival and performed with credit in the Melbourne Cup, can land his biggest win in this afternoon’s Doncaster Cup. Twelve months ago, the Willie Mullins-trained Thomas Hobson was runner-up in the race behind Desert Skyline with Sheikhzayedroad, the 2016 winner, just behind in third. Today’s renewal does not look any stronger. It is probably weaker and it is likely that Thomas Hobson and Sheikhzayedroad will be the main contenders. The drying ground is a negative for game Lord Yeats while Algometer’s last run was disappointing. Mullins has three of the eight runners but Ryan Moore-ridden Thomas Hobson looks the pick.
