IN HER new autobiography, Yes She Can, Ruth Davidson boasted that she walked out of BBC Scotland pay negotiations when she realised she was being offered less than the man she was replacing.

Surely the Scottish Tory leader understands that’s precisely the problem with the BBC — the idea that over-the-top salaries paid to men must be matched for their successors.

If Chris Evans’s replacement — man or woman — is paid even a quarter of his £1.6 million BBC salary it would be grossly obscene.
