FRIENDS star Matthew Perry has revealed he secretly stayed in hospital for three months after surgery to repair a ruptured bowel.

The 49-year-old actor wrote on Twitter: ‘Three months in a hospital bed. Check.’

His agent confirmed his stay in hospital and said: ‘He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals.’

A ruptured bowel is a hole in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract. It can occur in the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine or large intestine. The actor, best known

for playing Chandler Bing in the hit comedy Friends, has spoken out in the past about how he battled alcohol and prescription drug addiction during his time working on the series.

Perry completed a 28-day programme for Vicodin addiction in 1997 and later said he took the painkiller ‘mostly just to not drink as much as I was’. He entered rehab again in 2001 to recover from his use of Vicodin and alcohol.
