TOP DOGS POMPEY IN PARTY MOOD AFTER HUGE WIN

- TOM FARMERY

HERO OF THE WEEK

KENNY JACKETT (Portsmouth manager,

left): It may be far too early to label Peterborough v Portsmouth as a title decider, but after brilliant starts they kicked off first and second in the League.

Portsmouth changed that with a 2-1 win after goals by Oli hawkins and Jamal Lowe put them clear before Matt Godden scored a late consolation.

It maintained Jackett’s unbeaten start in the League and the 2,513 away fans at London road celebrated the victory as though they had won the title — and that is now the expectation. ZERO OF THE WEEK DEREK ADAMS (Plymouth manager): something has got to give at Plymouth Argyle. Manager Derek Adams is waiting for his players to ‘hit their straps’ after losing 1-0 at home to Blackpool.

Plymouth are bottom of the league after losing five and drawing three of their opening eight games. The fans deserve praise for sticking by Adams, who has called for patience, but that elusive victory has to come sooner rather than later.

GOAL OF THE WEEK

IAN HENDERSON ( for Rochdale v

Gillingham): henderson’s hat-trick gave rochdale their first home win of the season — and his third goal was the best of the lot. he got into a great position to brilliantly volley the ball past Gillingham’s Tomas holy after Aaron Wilbraham’s cross.

shrewbury’s manager, speaking after their first league win of the season, 2- 0 at home to southend United: ‘It has been a long time coming, hasn’t it? I might not sleep, I’ll be that excited. It’s nice for them [the fans] to go home and have a pint and enjoy going into work on Monday morning.’

STAT OF THE WEEK

58:
