Clay pigeon shooter killed

-

A MAN died after he was shot in the head at a clay pigeon shoot.

He is thought to have been loading his gun when it went off.

The victim, who has not been named, was taking part in a shoot in at Clandon Park House, a National Trust property near Guildford in Surrey.

Police and paramedics were called to the grounds of the 18th century mansion at about 11am on Friday. They found the man lying on a footpath near his gun. He was declared dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said that the death was not being treated as suspicious. An investigation is under way and an inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned in Woking this week.

Clandon Park House, a Grade I listed building, hit the headlines in 2015 when it was gutted by fire.
