Sharks invade Poldark country

- By Sami Quadri

SleeK and menacing, nine sharks glide through crystal clear blue water. a scene from the seas of australia or the caribbean? no... cornwall.

These blue sharks, each measuring some 7ft in length, were spotted about 15 miles off Penzance. and these were only a few of those in the large group. While shark sightings are becoming more common in british waters, a number of this size is rare.

Maritime photographer charles Hood, 57, who captured this image earlier this month, said: ‘ There were absolutely loads. It was like something out of the caribbean. I’ve never seen that many sharks at one time.’

Fortunately for Mr Hood, while blue sharks can grow to more than 10ft they feed on squid, octopus and other sea life, with attacks on humans extremely rare.
