Balding has bright hope for Newbury

- By MARCUS TOWNEND

TRAINER Andrew Balding will aim for a hugely appropriate winner of the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on Saturday with Shine So Bright. Saturday’s running of the Group Two race is staged 50 years after the birth of Mill Reef, who went on to win the 1971 Derby, Eclipse Stakes, King George and Arc for Balding’s trainer father Ian. Ian twice won the race named after the best horse he trained thanks to Forest Flower (1986) and Firebreak (2001). And Shine So Bright will be a favourite to win the race for Andrew, who said: ‘It would be great to win the race named after Mill Reef, a horse who has meant a lot to my father and my family.’ Shine So Bright races in the colours of King Power Racing, the ownership vehicle of Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
