SO, WHY THE 5.55pm KICK-OFF?
SOME Champions League matches will kick off at 5.55pm for the first time today, with Spurs among the sides selected to start the three-season experiment. UEFA are trialling the new time alongside 8pm kick-offs, saying they want to give fans the chance to ‘watch more games than ever before’. Of course, the introduction of 5.55pm kick-offs will also increase revenue streams and allow Europe’s elite competition even more exposure. It will also make it easier for fans in Asia and Australia to watch because of the time difference. 5.55pm kick-offs involving Premier League clubs: Sept 18: Inter Milan v Spurs. Oct 2: Hoffenheim v Man City. Oct 24: PSV v Spurs. Nov 6: Red Star v Liverpool.
