Primary schools should twin with farms – Packham

-

TV WILDLIFE presenter Chris Packham has unveiled a ‘people’s manifesto’ to save endangered wildlife.

The proposals call for all primary schools to be ‘twinned’ with farms to improve understanding of food production and for classes to name and ‘own’ urban trees.

His 200-suggestion manifesto also includes plans for wildlife ponds to exist in every industrial estate, a tax on pesticides and domestic cats to remain in at night to avoid killing wild birds.

Packham’s goal is to reverse what he calls an ‘ecological apocalypse’, with more than half British species in decline.

The proposals come ahead of the People’s Walk For Wildlife in Hyde Park in London on Saturday, which starts at 1pm.
