4. FIGHTING TO BECOME A MOTHER

We ONLY had a ten-day window before i needed to start treatment to harvest my eggs, so after Christmas in hospital, i began the hormone injections to prepare my body (Sam often did this).

in a way, it was a nice distraction. Cancer can leave you feeling powerless, but here i was able to do something proactive. When i came round from surgery i was told the doctors had retrieved ten eggs, which stood us a good chance of getting two embryos — or two chances to have a baby.

We were thrilled — even more so when days later our ten eggs had led to not just two embryos, but four.
