Police whitewash

-

AS A former Met police officer, I am hanging my head in shame at the way this once-great organisation is going.

The phrase ‘whiter than white’, which has long been understood by people with no thought of racist intent, could be used to put a senior officer out of his job (Mail).

Someone who seems to look for offence in the most innocent remark had a funny turn over it.

With the appalling state of crime in London, the complainer should be using their time preventing and detecting crime, not trying to stop other coppers doing their job.

PAUL MORLEY, Skipton, N. Yorks. THE Met should seriously consider whether a person can be a suitable candidate to exercise authority over the public if they combine ignorance of the English language and its meaning with the ability to find racism where there is none.

I doubt that even a lengthy diversity course could help in such an instance.

DAVID PAYNE, Stroud, Glos.
