Electric car shock

-

THE Government is epected to collect £28 billion in fuel duty this year. At the moment, electric- powered cars pay nothing, so what will happen when most cars are electric, and how will the Government recover that vast sum?

I drive a Toyota Auris hybrid, which I bought four years ago and so do not have to pay any vehicle tax.

However, if I bought a new model, the vehicle tax would be £95 in the first year and £130 a year thereafter.

The only conclusion can be that the Government will find some way to tax electric vehicles. BRIAN STARKEY, Brampton, Cambs.
