Andrew Mackenzie, 61 Chief executive, BHP Billiton

-

BHP’S boss was paid £6.1m during 2017, up 14pc on the year before. Andrew Mackenzie’s salary, cash bonus and retirement benefits at the world’s biggest miner added up to around £3.6m, but the overall pay package was boosted by the value of share-based payments. The Scotsman, a father of two, has been fending off attacks from activist investor Elliott which has criticised the business’s strategy. It follows a year marred by the deaths of two workers and lower thanexpected production.
