DON’T know your hyaluronic acid from your glycolic? Here’s a guide to what does what: Azelaic acid GENTLY resurfaces skin texture, reducing hyperpigmentation and acne. And it’s antiinflammatory, so good for sensitive skin. Glycolic acid AN ALPHA hydroxy acid that’s a chemical exfoliant, helping to get rid of dead cells. Hyaluronic acid A BRILLIANT hydrator; it can hold 1,000 times its weight in water. Good for all skin types. Matrixyl A PEPTIDE (a type of protein) shown to improve levels of collagen, which makes skin bouncy and youthful. Niacinamide REGULATES oil, minimises pores and dark spots and strengthens the skin barrier. Retinol A FORM of vitamin A, it helps to refine pores and smooth the skin. The ultimate anti-ager — but it can cause sensitivity in some. Salicylic acid A BETA hydroxy acid which is good for acne as it helps to reduce oil production. Squalane AN OIL also found naturally in the skin, it moisturises dry, sensitive skin without clogging pores. Vitamin C BRIGHTENS and protects skin, stimulates collagen growth and improves age spots — a real all-rounder. But it can irritate sensitive skin at high concentrations.
