Medic used a yoga ball to poison family

-

AN ANAESTHETIST murdered his wife and teenage daughter using a yoga ball filled with carbon monoxide.

Khaw Kim-sun, 53, left the ball in the back of the Mini Cooper belonging to estranged wife Wong Siew Fing, 47.

Mrs Wong and their daughter Lily, 16, were found unconscious in the car parked at a bus stop about an hour after leaving their home in Hong Kong.

They were later declared dead from severe carbon monoxide poisoning – although the vehicle showed no defects such as a leaky emissions system.

Police were initially baffled by the deaths, in 2015, until the presence of the deflated yoga ball drew suspicion.

Khaw, 53, shook his head and looked at his three other children after hearing the guilty verdict. He was jailed for life.

Prosecutors had told Hong Kong’s High Court that Khaw left the inflatable ball in the boot of the car, allowing the gas to leak out and kill them.

They accused Khaw, an associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, of carrying out the murders because he was having an affair with a student.

Khaw, a Malaysian national, also stood to inherit considerable amounts of property co-owned with Mrs Wong after her death.

Judge Judianna Barnes Wai-ling said it was ‘shocking’ such an educated man would conjure up so calculated a plot.
