SPURS NEED TO SPEND IN JANUARY

-

ONE thing that annoys me in football is when people get carried away by results after four or five weeks of a new season. So, you can be sure there is little chance of me jumping into the debate about Tottenham and declaring that they are finished, having lost three games on the spin, including two to Liverpool and Inter Milan in the space of 72 hours. I said on the opening day of the campaign, before they’d travelled to Newcastle, that their business in the summer was positive even though they had not signed any players. It was crucial to get Harry Kane and several other stars on long-term contracts. Nothing is going to change my view that they will finish in the top four again. I am, though, slightly concerned about them at present and I’d be really worried if Kane, Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen ended up with a long-term injury. It certainly wouldn’t do them any harm if Mauricio Pochettino happened to buy someone in January. Contrary to what you might think, players love it when new faces arrive as it provides competition and gives everyone a lift. Pochettino, of course, will know that better than anyone.
